The Bluebeards Revenge’s new Inspire to Aspire campaign is now well under way, and having already introduced you to talented British rower Hugh Gallie, Leigh Centurions rugby ace Ryan Brierley and Scottish alternative rock band Flood of Red, , this week it is the turn of Jersey Rugby Club star Grant Pointer.

Here, he tells us all about himself and his extended foray into the manliest of sports.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your sporting journey so far.
“I started playing rugby at the age of seven for North Walsham Minis in Norfolk. I was always sporty at school, playing in national finals with hockey and going to national competitions in athletics with triple jump. Rugby was always my focus though, as I continued to play it when I went to Loughborough University where I studied Architectural Engineering & Design Management.

“Whilst at Loughborough, I was lucky enough to play at Twickenham in the BUSA final, against Hartpury College.
I then signed a contract with Northampton Saints which was a great experience for me, but I unfortunately developed a stress fracture in my shin which held me back from playing at my full potential.

“I then moved to Cornish Pirates for three years, which was great, as we reached two Championship finals against Worcester and London Welsh. The last year I was at Pirates I unfortunately dislocated my left shoulder which ruled me out for most of the season. After Cornish Pirates I wanted a bit of a scenery change and Jersey Rugby Club approached me. I have recently had an operation and four screws in my shoulder, but I am not letting it stop me – I am also on the verge of 100 Championship games which I hope to break next season with Jersey.”
